he non-profit Nauset Light Preservation Society was formed in 1993. A group of Eastham residents became concerned when the Coast Guard announced it had no plans to save Eastham's most famous historic structure from the ravages of the Atlantic Ocean. It was through the efforts of the NLPS that Nauset Light was successfully moved to a new site in November 1996.

Nauset Light was owned by the Coast Guard, but it is located within the Cape Cod National Seashore. The Coast Guard transferred ownership of the lighthouse to the National Park Service who, in turn, now leases the lighthouse to the Nauset Light Preservation Society. The NLPS is responsible for paying for all utilities and maintenance costs.

The NLPS provides public tours of Nauset Lighthouse on weekends July through October. Volunteers provide the historic background of the lighthouse station and conduct the tour to the top of the tower. Thousands of people of all ages have come to see it. At the new location, the Nauset Light Preservation Society continues to keep the lighthouse lit as a private aid to navigation.

The Nauset Light Preservation Society has contributed over $80,000 toward the moving of the lighthouse and restoration of the exterior of the tower. Funds continue to be raised through the sale of merchandise, private donations, and memberships in the Society. Members now number more than 800 from 40 different states. Additional funds are needed for interior restoration of the tower, restoration of the oil house, completion of the landscaping, and the endowment fund to pay for future expenses.

You have been very generous in the past, and we hope you will continue your support by making a donation or renewing your membership in the Society. Membership fees are: Individual $10/year, Family $20/year, Life Member Individual $200, Life Member Family $350. Membership includes the NLPS newsletter.
